— IN LONG ——————–
Hello all!
My name is Makena, essentially Muh-ken-uh, and I am a young artist sharing my creative thoughts & art with the world. I am the owner of my own small business (The Artist Makena) & I work at a local art gallery, Shaviq: Studio & Gallery; its a “happy place” that I am more than honored to sell my work in. How many people can say they actually love their job?
Born in Maui and named after Makena beach, I have been interested in, & practicing, art for as long as I can remember. Writing has always been another hobby of mine. Being an only child, one must entertain themselves – I did this through art & writing; I often wonder if it is because of this “only child syndrome” that I became so interested in the world of the arts.
Photography, is a new found passion, I guess you could say I purchased it when I bought my pride and joy, an Olympus Pen E-PL1. Since then, cameras have become an obsession; I now have “too many” & still want more.
It is because of my new love for photography & my lasting love for writing & art, along with other assorted reasons, that I finally decided to start a blog – so that I may share my hectic world of art with the world!
Lastly, I am attending college for an Art Major with an Entrepreneurship Minor a Minor in Commercial Art. NOPE! :]
Lastly, I am attending college for a Double Major in Art & Graphic/Communications.
Welcome to ‘a hectic world of art’!
I hope to see you returning & leaving feedback so that I may improve this here blog! Thank you for your time & continued support. If you would like to know more about me, simply leave a comment & I would be happy to update my ‘about’.
Any photograph you see is taken by me.
See my Gravatar for a full list of the cameras I use.

hi Makena (is it your name ? :) ). Nice to know you and your arts. Wish we can encourage each other, since I also developing my photographic site at http://www.erwinrfd.wordpress.com
Yes it is, and thank you! I would love to help inspire you and for you to inspire me! :) Good luck!
Your photos are amazing!
I am a young, new photographer with a passion for it.
Any chance you can give me an insight on how your pictures are so great? :)
Also, I admire your Junkyard shots. I am amazed as to how you managed to get such extraordinary clarity and detail with your camera.
Look forward to seeing more of your works!
Thank you very much!
Sadly, I must admit, part of the “greatness” and especially the clarity comes from my camera alone, the Olympus Pen E-PL1, mostly because of its pixels. It is a 12.3 megapixel camera which allows you to capture WAY more detail. I would recommend it to anyone, especially to new photographers.
Also, I did use Photoshop CS5 on the Junkyard photos-saturation changes and blurring. (The blurring on the edges/background could lead to the extra clarity that you speak of.)
Lastly, practice. Photograph often, photograph what you like. Have fun and good luck! I look forward to seeing you coming back, and even helping you out.
Hello,
Love your Junkyard pics, you might want to check out this post of mine. These cars were left on Cumberland Island and left to rot. Pretty cool! http://thecoinologist.com/2010/10/27/cumberland-island-national-seashore-ga/
I, too, liked the photos, especially the Alex Johnson shot. You could use your blog as your journal–kill two birds. Thanks. bs

David in Maine USA
Thanks, David; I look forward to reading more of your Haikus!
Makena thank you!
Makena, are you all set up on dot org?
Nope :( I shared all about it in my post “Washington knows what’s up.”
The process was much to complicated. I decided to go with WP’s bundle package & have been editing my CSS, etc. (One of the aspects I was looking forward to most – so, all is well in the end.)
@atteancanoe
hope your summer was fun and the dawning of autumn in the very near future fills your thoughts with new artistic designs!

HI Makena, Where have you been? I’ve been missing your posts!
School has been much more time consuming that I had expected! I mean, it is my third year I guess, with a double major – so I shouldn’t be surprised. :P But I hope to be back very soon!
